Great news! The Astronomy group is starting to make good progress with its programming, albeit slower than anticipated. Back in the States, when I was heavily involved in a local astronomical Society, I had access to some wonderful presentations, speakers and materials. I have now
procured those through my friends at CCAS, The Astronomical League, Skymaps and NASA Nightsky Network. I have also confirmed that we will have access to a number of NASA “Solar System Ambassadors” to provide us with Zoom presentations as well.

At this juncture, I would say we hope to go “live” very soon but since I have yet to secure a suitable meeting location, we’ll begin with an online
presence only (Zoom). I would think a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon might be a suitable time but that can be discussed. And, if the skies are kind in the next few weeks, we can certainly start to arrange for some evening event viewings locally.

This informal group will focus how, where and what to observe in the night sky around Oban. We will talk about equipment choices, preparation and setup, mobile apps, and star charts as we explore navigating the night skies.

Are you interested in observing and learning about the night sky?  Amateur astronomers observe and learn about a variety of celestial objects and phenomena such as the sun, moon, planets, stars, comets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae.  One of our members has been an enthusiastic amateur for 10 years and would like to set up monthly viewing evenings, following some preparatory classes.  If you'd be interested in joining in, please contact David H, Groups Coordinator who will forward your details.
