Instead of yet another Christmas lunch, we had afternoon tea at the Knipoch Hotel.
The Group has had a glut of plays. A touring theatre company and Mull Theatre gave live performances and the Rockfield centre showed National Theatre Live performance of George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession. We tried out 3 restaurants, for a meal before each.
In November there is another National Theatre Live show at the Rockfield Centre and we may have an outing to eat at an Indian or Chinese restaurant.
The Group had a great visit to the Tutankhamun exhibition in Glasgow although some weren’t too keen on the second virtual reality walk around the tomb. All the rest was fascinating.

Some of us recently visited the
Caledonian Oyster farm on Loch Creran.
Judith Vajk gave an interesting talk about the intricacies of farming oysters from buying in the spat and the grading of sizes throughout the 3 year growing period. We saw the kit for purifying them and the equipment for grading. We then had a chance to "shuck" (open) an oyster and were invited to eat. Three brave souls took up the challenge and were pleasantly surprised, but this did not encourage the others to try. One hardy soul ate all the
shucked oysters where the shucker would not try.

Members of the Group attended the matinee of War Horse at the Theatre Royal.

Members of the Group met for Afternoon Tea at the Dungallan House Hotel.
Some folk then attended the Finale of the Winter Festival.
The Out and About group had a lovely trip to Glasgow SEC to see the ‘Beyond Van Gogh’ immersive experience. On entry there were displays of some of his paintings and quotations then it was on to the main event. For half an hour various of his paintings were displayed on the walls, pillars and floor. Sometime the painting was built stroke by stroke and others built colour by colour. It was constantly on the move and gave the feeling you were actually inside the painting.

The Out and About group had a couple of outings in May. Some of us were enthralled by Ralph Fiennes’ performance in Macbeth at the cinema. It seemed strange to listen to Shakespeare’s language and see modern warfare dress but it worked. We had fish and chips before.
Sunday night saw some of us take an evening trip on the Waverley to Fort William and return by bus. The weather held for about half the trip before Ben Nevis attracted a bit too much rain. All was not lost though as the band, Creel, had us tapping our feet to traditional music in the bar.
Apart from a 20 minute hold up as
some part of the bus needed a man
with a screwdriver, it was a nice
adventure.

The Group viewed 'One Life' starring Anthony Hopkins in the local Phoenix Cinema recently. It is the story of British stockbroker Nicholas Winton who visits Czechoslovakia in the 1930s and forms plans to assist in the rescue of Jewish children before the onset of World War II, in an operation that came to be known as the Kindertransport.
A New Year Afternoon Tea was held in the Perle.
The Group visited the Burrell Collection in Pollock, Glasgow with a short talk followed by a personal guided tour by a friend of Bob’s who is a volunteer at the Burrell.
Some of the 'Out and About' group visited the newly upgraded Kilmartin Museum. The outing was enjoyed by all and the museum was impressive. The trip was rounded off with a lunch at the Kilmartin Hotel.
Another outing was a bus trip to Glasgow to see Matthew Bourne's ballet Romeo and Juliet.
